Adults, teens, and tweens: Develop dramatic characters and start a new play! In this free three-week workshop, internationally acclaimed playwright Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig will lead you through generative writing workouts designed to strengthen your playwriting muscles and spark your imagination. No experience necessary. No registration required. Participants can attend all three sessions of the workshop or whichever dates their schedules allow. *We recommend that a parent or guardian be present to supervise participants ages 12 and younger.
Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig is an internationally produced playwright who was recently described by the judges of the Whiting Award as “a visionary talent whose politically acute fables bring the histories of nations, of capital, and of censorship to life.” In the past year, her work has been staged in Canada at the Shaw Festival and the National Arts Centre, and in Japan by the Haiyuza Theatre Company. She is currently under commission to write new plays for Yale Repertory Theatre and the Perelman Performing Arts Center. A recent transplant to southwest Virginia, she has previously taught playwriting at UC Santa Barbara and Bennington College.
